Andrew McCaskill on how AI literacy and networking shape career opportunities

Corie Murray’s ‘Black Men Sundays’ podcast focuses on business, finance and building generational wealth

ORLANDO, Fla. – This week on “Black Men Sundays,” host Corie Murray interviews LinkedIn expert Andrew McCaskill.

The discussion turned to the role of AI in the workplace. McCaskill reiterated a point he made during his previous appearance, warning that while AI may not take jobs today, “somebody who understands AI will definitely be in a position to take your job or be your boss.”

“This isn’t what somebody’s predicting or what somebody thinks. These are the skills that people are actually hiring for to date, the skills that they are listing on job descriptions that are must-have, non-negotiables, and AI literacy is at the top of that list. So now this isn’t even about getting ahead, this is about staying in the game,” McCaskill said.

Sharing more insights on the competitive job market, McCaskill said there are now around 2.5 applicants for any given job.

“I don’t have updated numbers for people feeling underpaid, but I do have updated numbers for Black folks who are actively looking, and that number right now is about 65% of African-Americans are thinking about what their next professional move is,” he said. “That doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re at the interviewing point, but they are at the point where they are thinking about making that move or preparing to make that move. They’re looking."

For entrepreneurs looking to hire, McCaskill advised leveraging tools such as LinkedIn to effectively share positive information about their organizations and to actively post job openings, emphasizing the importance of building a supportive network.

“I’ve always said that your network is not about who has your business card or who has you a telephone number or who’s email address you have. Your network is about a community of people who are rooting for you to win,” he said.
