ORLANDO, Fla. – This week on “Black Men Sundays,” host Corie Murray interviews Kirk and Genee Harvey, a creative couple who put a luxury treehouse in the Georgia mountains with their Honey Hills retreat.
Kirk’s experience as a builder and developer harmonized with Genee’s talents in realty and interior design to make Honey Hills a reality, described as Georgia’s first fully-mirrored treehouse with panoramic views and five-star amenities.
”I’m an investor, been in the game for a while, started off with fixing and flipping homes and stuff and eventually grew into the new construction builds and subdivisions. We’ve been in the new construction business for about six, seven years, so with the expertise of the construction and the dream, we just put it together. I had a dream of building a tree house," Kirk Harvey said.
As crucial as dreams are, the couple also came ready to share financial tips for others who may be looking to expand their business.
“Basically, after a sale of a purchase, you have up to 90 days to reinvest it in real estate or another property or land or a house, and if you do that within that 90-day period, you don’t have to pay any taxes on your capital gains,” Kirk Harvey said.

”As people of color, as Black people, don’t be scared to go to the bank," Genee Harvey said. “You know, we hear all of the horror stories about, ‘Oh, they’re going to turn us down,’ this, that, and the third, but you have to keep trying because it is possible. So that’s another thing, just have an open mindset. Yes, you might get told ‘No’ at a bank or a financial place, but then go try another one, you know? Try another one. Don’t let that ‘No’ stop you.”
