NBA Playoffs: Orlando Magic in Play-In Tournament for second straight season

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic can earn their spot in the NBA playoffs with a win Wednesday night at the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

Since the Magic are in 8th place in the Eastern Conference and the 76ers are in 7th place, the Magic are playing in Philadelphia Wednesday. The winner will secure the No. 7 seed in the playoffs and play No. 2 Boston Celtics. The loser will have one more shot to make the playoffs by hosting the No. 10 Charlotte Hornets Friday night. The winner Friday night will play No. 1 Detroit Pistons in the first round, and the loser is eliminated.

In three match-ups this season, the 76ers went 2-1 against the Magic, led by Tyrese Maxey who scored 43, 29 and 20 points in those three games. 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid has been ruled out.

Orlando has also not won a playoff road game since 2019. The Magic are seeking a third straight postseason trip. Last season, the Magic won a Play-In game to make the playoffs.

The Magic entered this 2025-26 season with high expectations, propelled by the Desmond Bane trade. But after injuries throughout the season, blown leads in winnable games and a dip in its defensive performance, the Magic ended the regular season with a 45-37 record.
