Jeff Haniewich

Chief Meteorologist

Chief Meteorologist Jeff Haniewich is an American Meteorological Society (AMS) Certified Broadcaster, forecasting weather conditions in southwest Virginia on WSLS 10 News at 5, 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m. every weekday.

Haniewich earned the designation of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society in 2015. The AMS CBM designation is the highest rating awarded by the American Meteorological Society.

Jeff came to Roanoke back in October 2003 from our sister station WNCT in the Greenville/Washington/New Bern market in North Carolina. Jeff is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and knew very early on that he wanted to be one of two things…1) a professional baseball player (he gave up on that dream a long time ago) or 2) a meteorologist.

Hurricane Hugo initially sparked his interest in the weather back in 1989. Jeff graduated Summa Cum Laude from Elon College (now Elon University) in North Carolina and obtained his post-baccalaureate degree in atmospheric science from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys playing all sports, especially golf and baseball, and spending time with his family and friends. He may very well be the biggest Cleveland Indians, Browns, and Cavaliers fan this far from his native Cleveland. Jeff and his wife Lindsay have a daughter, Millie Grace. He is very happy and proud to call Southwest Virginia home.
