A deadly case of brain-eating amoeba in South Carolina is bringing renewed national attention to a test developed right here in Central Florida. The doctor behind it says the risk of catching it is growing.

A Florida man died last month from an infection with a rare amoeba after rinsing his sinuses with tap water, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Doctors at AdventHealth say they have developed a test that can detect infections from brain-eating amoebas.
