FBI Director Kash Patel is bracing for scrutiny over his leadership of the Charlie Kirk investigation and other areas when he appears before Congress this coming week for oversight hearings.

Three fired FBI officials have sued to get their jobs back, calling their terminations part of a “campaign of retribution” carried out by a director who caved to political pressure from the Trump administration.

The FBI is forcing out more senior officials, including a former acting director who resisted Trump administration demands to turn over the names of agents who participated in Jan. 6 Capitol riot investigations and the head of the bureau’s Washington field office.

The Trump administration has fired a group of prosecutors involved in the Jan. 6 criminal cases and demanded the names of FBI agents involved in those same probes so that they can possibly be ousted.

The White House has named a veteran agent to serve as acting FBI director after the official who’d been expected to run the bureau on an interim basis following the departure of Christopher Wray retired after nearly 30 years.
