Federal immigration officials are scouting warehouses and beginning to purchase some of them to transform into detention and processing facilities.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Tuesday that the county attorney’s office is “exploring the legal issues” centered around U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s interest in opening a detention facility in Orlando.

If the U.S. Department of Homeland Security chooses to open an ICE detention facility in the city of Orlando, there is nothing city leaders can do to stop it. That’s according to the Orlando city attorney’s office, which issued a legal opinion to Mayor Buddy Dyer.

News 6 was there as ICE representatives toured a building on Transport Drive as a possible new detainment center.
