DeSantis' order on certain real estate evictions lifts Thursday, meaning more people could potentially face homelessness. There arenโt enough of them for all of the homeless folks in the community,โ Krall said. They also provide resources for about 25 children who need a place to connect for online schooling. At the moment, the coalition is taking in individual volunteers but not group volunteers.

DeSantis: Florida might extend statewide evictions ban
Ron DeSantis said he might extend the statewide moratorium on housing evictions that is set to expire on Saturday. The governor has previously extended the ban twice, hours before it was set to expire, news outlets reported. During the governorโs extension last month, 743 eviction orders had been filed in Palm Beach County alone, according to Sharon Bock, the countyโs clerk of courts. As of Wednesday, 1,001 eviction orders have been filed in the county. ___An earlier version of this report incorrectly said there had been nearly 17,000 eviction orders in Palm Beach County.

PREVIOUS STORY:The temporary ban on evictions and foreclosures in Florida put in place by Gov. DeSantis issued an executive order in April placing a moratorium, or hold, on evictions due to nonpayment of monthly rent or mortgages. Last week, DeSantis announced $240 million in funding for rental assistance for affordable housing tenants, along with rent and mortgage assistance. Locally, several Central Florida counties are offering rent assistance or financial help through federal CARES Act grants and pandemic assistance.
