Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Tuesday announced his intention to sign a bill that bans local governments from adding fluoride to the community water supply.

The Florida House on Tuesday gave final approval to a bill that would prevent local governments from adding fluoride to water supplies and take aim at labeling of plant-based products as milk, meat and eggs.

Commissioners in Seminole County voted on Tuesday to end its decades-old fluoridation program, becoming the latest local government to remove the additive from drinking water.

Utah appears to be the first state ready to put a full ban on fluoride in public water systems under a bill that doesn’t allow cities or communities to decide whether to add the cavity-preventing mineral.

City leaders in Longwood could decide Monday night whether to remove fluoride from the city’s water supply. The city commission meeting starts Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the commission chambers.
