Gatwick Airport, London’s second-busiest, is limiting flights this week, partly because of an outbreak of COVID-19 within air traffic control.

With over 14 million people expected to check into airports nationwide for Labor Day weekend, a number of them inevitably will be travelers with dementia or some sort of cognitive impairment.

Hundreds of thousands of British vacationers face potential disruption to their travel plans at the start of the school summer holidays after almost 1,000 workers at London’s Gatwick Airport voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Britain’s Gatwick Airport has slashed its number of daily flights over the summer because of staff shortages.

With all British schools now closed for the summer, airports and airlines are looking a tad more normal, though the number of families heading off for warmer climes remains way down from before the coronavirus pandemic.

Airline passengers from the United Kingdom will need to get negative COVID-19 tests within three days of their trip and provide the results to the airline, the CDC said in a statement. The agency said because of travel restrictions in place since March, air travel to the U.S. from the U.K. is already down by 90%. Andrew Cuomo said three airlines with flights from London to New York — British Airways, Delta and Virgin Atlantic — had agreed to require passengers to take a COVID-19 test before getting on the plane.

Not this year as the coronavirus pandemic has meant many have opted against making their annual summer migration to countries like Spain and Greece. Gatwick would in any normal year be expecting to fly some 85,000 holidaymakers on Friday alone. Instead, its all about the staycation" - fish and chips by the British seaside or woodland retreats inland. Whether this years staycation persists beyond this year will, like everything else, depend on what happens with the virus. For now though, families will do what they can to enjoy the last few weeks of summer at home as best they can.
