A man accused of shooting at a Volusia sheriff’s deputy earlier this week appeared in court for the first time since the incident.

A Volusia sheriff’s deputy whose body camera saved his life when he was shot twice while investigating a case in Deltona was released from the hospital.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood on Tuesday will show body camera video of a deputy who was shot twice in Deltona while investigating a vandalism case.

A deputy is conscious and alert after being shot twice on Monday evening, and his department-issued body camera may have helped save his life, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

In a release, deputies provided footage taken of the man, who was shirtless and striking the dog outside of the gas station.
