Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s leftist party has won the most seats in the parliamentary election.

Lawmakers have until May to elect a president, or the country could be forced to hold another parliamentary election. The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo party of Ramush Haradinaj, who is hoping to become the next president, won 8 seats. Most Western nations have recognized Kosovo, but Serbia and its allies Russia and China do not. If no candidate is elected after three rounds of voting, the country could be forced to hold another early parliamentary election.

Earlier this week, the war veterans group said that for the third time in two months an unknown person had provided war crime files from The Hague investigation. The Kosovo Specialist Chambers is looking into allegations that Kosovo Liberation Army members committed war crimes and crimes against humanity. Kosovar President Hashim Thaci, former parliamentary speaker Kadri Veseli and others have been charged with crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, enforced disappearances, persecution and torture.
