The Tampa City Council has agreed to pay former prison inmate Robert DuBoise $14 million to compensate him for the 37 years he spent behind bars for a murder that he did not commit.

A Florida man exonerated of a 1983 rape and murder after serving 37 years in prison is suing over his wrongful conviction in which a questionable bite mark was critical evidence.

His sister Harriett DuBoise and Innocence Project attorney Susan Friedman also by his side. Marpet told NFL Media after hearing DuBoise’s story the players reached out to the Innocence Project to ask how they could help the 56-year-old. Starting over with nothing, DuBoise told the NFL Network the Bucs gave him $25,000 and he’s continued to receive help from the Innocence Project. PETERSBURG, Fla. – After 37 years behind bars, a Florida man has been formally cleared of a 1983 rape and murder that new DNA evidence proved he did not commit despite testimony from a sketchy jailhouse informant and faulty bite mark analysis at the time. Robert DuBoise was released from prison last month after the new evidence surfaced. A hearing before Hillsborough County Circuit Judge Christopher Nash resulted in an order Monday wiping away the previous convictions and life sentence, and sex offender status. DuBoise, 55, was convicted in the murder of 19-year-old Barbara Grams who was attacked walking home from her Tampa mall job.

Robert DuBoise walked out of the Hardee Correctional Institution in Bowling Green, Florida, shortly after 2 p.m. With him were his mother and sister. DuBoises conviction centered on one piece of evidence: an alleged bite mark on the victims face. Judge Christopher Nash ruled that DuBoise, who was serving his sentence in Hardee County, Florida, should be released immediately. The hearing Thursday was to reduce DuBoise's sentence to equal the amount of time he already served behind bars.
