A silver-haired bat was rescued in Brevard County and Wild Florida Rescue believes it might be the first of its kind to be found in the area.

The first case of rabies in 2023 has been confirmed in Polk County, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Section on Thursday confirmed its first case of rabies in 2022, finding it within a bat in Winter Haven, officials said.
