iPhone alert leads first responders to rollover crash in Marion County

REDDICK, Fla. – An alert sent from an iPhone early Monday morning led first responders to the site of a rollover crash where the driver was reportedly trapped inside, Marion County Fire Rescue said.

First responders were dispatched to a rollover crash with reported entrapment in the 5400 block of West Highway 329 in Reddick.

Rescuers arrived within six minutes of the alert to find an overturned pickup truck in a field that had crashed through a fence, officials said. Inside, they found the driver was impaled by parts of the fence.

Fire stations from Sparr, Anthony, and Orange Lake worked together to cut the driver out of the car while firefighter paramedics began treatment, the crash report stated.

Using specialized tools, the firefighters managed to cut the truck’s roof off and free the driver around 6 a.m. The driver was transported to the hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
