3 children among 6 dead in fiery Osceola County crash, FHP says

Crash reported on SR 60, west of South Kenansville Road on June 21

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Three children, including two infants, were among the six people killed in a fiery crash in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP released an updated crash report on Monday for the June 21 wreck.

An SUV was traveling west on S.R. 60 as a semitruck traveled east, according to an FHP crash report, when the SUV’s driver attempted to pass several vehicles and lost control while trying to get back into the westbound lanes. The SUV subsequently struck the front of the semitruck, the report states.

The impact caused both vehicles to become engulfed in flames, FHP said.

All six of the SUV’s passengers — including a 4-month-old boy, 10-month-old boy and 3-year-old girl — became entrapped and were pronounced dead on the scene, according to the updated FHP report. The children along with the driver, a 26-year-old woman, and two other passengers, a 19-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman, were all from Fort Lauderdale.

The report also listed that the children were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The 36-year-old Miami Gardens man who was driving the semitruck had minor injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
