Volusia County woman struck, killed in hit-and-run crash on US-17; charges pending

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old Orange City woman was struck and killed early Sunday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. on US-17 near N Spring Garden Avenue.

According to a crash report, the woman was walking on the shoulder on US-17. A 2005 Ford F-250 on US-17 went off the roadway and struck the woman, troopers said, before fleeing north.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses provided a description of the vehicle, which was later located by Volusia County deputies at the registered owner’s address, the FHP said.

The vehicle, which had “damage consistent with collision,” was taken into evidence, troopers said.

The owner is cooperating with investigators.
