DeLEON SPRINGS, Fla. – A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Volusia County after a deputy clocked him going 105 mph in a 45 mph zone, officials said.
Anthony Handam, 22, was arrested after being pulled over on County Road 3 in DeLeon Springs.
Under Florida’s new “Super Speeder” law, drivers can be fined and jailed for traveling at least 100 mph or 50 mph over the speed limit.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office posted video of Handam’s arrest on X.
“Was I really going 105 (mph)?” Handam said.
“C’mon, are you that dumb?” a deputy is heard asking Handam on the video.
“I wasn’t looking (at the speedometer), I’m going to be honest with you,” Handam replied.

The deputy tells Handam to get out of the car and places him in handcuffs while saying, “You see that knife on the (floorboard)? Do not even go near it.”
“I understand. Can I at least call my mom? I have five dogs at the house, that’s the only reason I’m asking,” Handam said.
“You haven’t seen anything on the news about this new ‘super speeder’ thing?” the deputy asks Handam. “It’s been all over the news for weeks.”
“There’s a what law?” Handam asked.
“If you’re (going) 100 mph on any road or 50 mph over the speed limit on any road, you go straight to jail and we take your car,” the deputy said.

“This is my sister’s car,” Handam said later in the conversation.
“Your sister just lost her car,” the deputy said.
Handam was arrested on a charge of reckless driving “in regards to the Super Speeder Law” and taken to jail but was later released after posting bond, records show.
