8-year-old boy seriously injured in dirt bike crash near Altamonte Springs

Crash happened on Ronald Reagan Boulevard near Florence Avenue

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – An 8-year-old boy was seriously injured Wednesday when he lost control of his dirt bike and collided with a vehicle near Altamonte Springs, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 6 p.m. on Ronald Reagan Boulevard near Florence Avenue/Marker Street.

According to troopers, the boy was traveling south on Ronald Reagan Boulevard in the outside lane when he lost control of the bike and hit the front right of a 2004 Toyota Avalon.

The impact of the crash caused the boy to be thrown from the bike and hit the Toyota a second time, FHP said.

The boy was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 56-year-old Orlando man, and his passenger, an 18-year-old Orlando man, were not injured and remained on-scene.

An investigation is ongoing.
