Trooper Steve on Patrol: Keeping traffic safe ahead of historic Artemis II launch

Heading to Titusville for liftoff? Where you park matters as much as where you watch

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – It’s been the talk of the week across Central Florida.

The highly anticipated launch of Artemis II is set to send a crew toward the moon, marking a historic moment for space exploration.

While many eyes are fixed on the sky, mine are on the ground.

On this edition of Trooper Steve on Patrol, we took a drive out to Titusville—one of the most popular viewing areas along the Space Coast—to focus on something just as important as the launch itself: traffic safety.

Let’s be real. When big events like this happen, normal rules sometimes feel like suggestions. And that’s where things can quickly go wrong.

I spent time speaking with officers from the Titusville Police Department, who are preparing for the surge of traffic and reminding drivers that safety starts long before the rocket leaves the pad.

One of the biggest issues? Parking.

We’re seeing it all too often—vehicles pulled onto shoulders, blocking roadways, or parked in areas that were never meant for it. And I get it. Everyone wants the best view, but here’s the deal: if you wouldn’t normally park there on a regular day, there’s a very good chance you shouldn’t be parking there today.

Not only can improper parking lead to tickets or towing, but more importantly, it creates dangerous conditions for emergency vehicles that may need quick access. On a night like this, seconds matter.

So here’s your Trooper Steve reminder:

Plan ahead. Follow posted signs. Stay off the shoulders unless directed, and don’t block driveways, intersections, or travel lanes.

This is a moment we should all be able to enjoy safely.

So soak it in. Watch history unfold. Be patient with traffic, and most importantly, get home safe.

Because at the end of the day, the goal isn’t just to see the launcH, it’s to make sure you’re around to talk about it tomorrow.
