SunRail, Amtrak, Lynx alter schedules for Hurricane Irma

'We appreciate your patience,' SunRail says

ORLANDO, Fla. – SunRail, Central Florida's commuter rail service, has suspended operations until further notice.

"We are working hard to prepare the corridor and appreciate your patience," SunRail tweeted.

SunRail ended service early last Friday because of Hurricane Irma, officials said.

The last trains in each direction were canceled.

Meanwhile, the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) said Sunday that all of its services will be halted to comply with Central Florida’s emergency operations request to keep all roads clear for emergency situations. 

LYNX said it has more than 100 bus operators and employees on standby for when the storm passes.

The agency is currently providing service to those with special needs as requested by authorities.

LYNX staff will monitor the effects of the storm and will keep the community up-to-date as the storm passes through the area via:

Also, Amtrak is temporarily suspending services in Florida due to the storm.

  • The Silver Star Train 92 and Silver Meteor Train 98 (Miami - New York City) are cancelled for Sept. 9 - 11.
  • The Silver Star Train 91 (New York City - Miami) will operate from New York City to Orlando, Fla., on Thursday, Sept. 7. The Silver Meteor Train 97 (New York City - Miami) will operate from New York City to Jacksonville, Fla. Trains 91 and 97 are cancelled for Sept. 8 - 10.
  • The Auto Train 53 (Lorton, Va. - Sanford, Fla.) is cancelled for Saturday, Sept. 9. The Auto Train 52 (Sanford, Fla. - Lorton, Va.) is cancelled on Sept. 10 and 11.

Amtrak said no alternate transportation will be provided and information is subject to change as conditions warrant.
