The National Weather Service said temperatures reached 90 degrees as of 1:30 p.m., breaking the record set in 1929.

"Afternoon high temperatures will be well above the average in many areas Tuesday," News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said earlier in the day.

Records fell Monday in Melbourne and Daytona Beach, as both reporting stations hit a high of 90 degrees Monday afternoon.

"Rain chances will be at 30 percent Tuesday afternoon as lots of heat and moisture are still in place," Bridges said.  "South winds will bring in more moisture and more heat."

Afternoon high temperatures will remain above average through Friday.

"Rain chances will be lower for Thursday and for Friday at 10 percent, but will increase to 30 percent for the weekend.
