"Thursday should be the last day of this weeklong heat wave across Central Florida," said News 6 meteorologist Candace Campos.

Highs Thursday will be near records in Orlando, with temperatures climbing back into the mid 80s. Rain coverage will remain minimal, with rip current risk remaining high along the east coast beaches.

Temperatures will remain mild in the mid to lower 70s through the evening on Thursday.

"The 'cooling' trend will begin as we ring in the new year, as a weak cool front crawls into the area," said Campos. "Highs should top off in the upper 70s to low 80s through Saturday, with the bulk of the rain and clouds moving in on Sunday."

Rain-cooled air will drop temperatures into the upper 60s, which is where we should stay until the start of next week, Campos said.
