Central Florida heats back up as afternoon storms return this week

Storm chances increase Tuesday-Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. – High pressure continues to build in across the mid-Atlantic coast with low level winds veering to the east and southeast, gradually allowing moisture to build back northward.

A few showers will be possible for southern counties through the afternoon Monday, while most of east Central Florida remains mostly dry. Skies will be mostly to partly sunny across the area, with highs in the upper 70s along the coast, to low 80s further inland.

As we continue through the workweek, a southerly wind flow will start up a humid and warming trend, with developing thunder chances during the afternoon. This will start inland and tracking towards the coast along the sea breeze. Highs will soar into the upper 80s to near 90s under mostly cloudy skies.

Latest models continue to show a slow-moving frontal boundary accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms. Plenty of available moisture may lead to a threat of locally heavy rain late Wednesday and into Thursday.

Once the front clears, drier and cooler weather settles in. Expect highs to cool below average in the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies through the weekend.
