Storm expected to become hurricane before hitting Florida

ORLANDO, Fla.Nicole made landfall in southeast Florida early Thursday as a Category 1 hurricane.

As of Thursday at 4 a.m., Nicole was 25 miles northwest of Vero Beach, moving west-northwest at 14 mph with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. A tornado watch was issued for Flagler County through 1 p.m.

The storm made landfall just south of Vero Beach on North Hutchinson Island.

Nicole is forecast to move northwest across Florida all day Thursday before making another landfall in the Big Bend area of the state Thursday night.

The Orlando area -- from Flagler to Brevard and Sumter to Osceola counties -- will see gusty winds and lots of rain over the next two days. Here’s what each area can expect.
