ORLANDO, Fla. – As we roll into the shortest weekend of the year, let’s take a look at what’s ahead for the weather in our area as we officially spring into daylight saving time.
Thanks to high pressure hanging over the region, temperatures Friday morning dipped into the 30s and 40s. But the chilly weather won’t stay for long, as afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 70s to low 80s. So, while it’ll still be a bit cool at the start of the day, you can expect a pleasant afternoon ahead.
By Saturday, expect daytime highs to return to the 80s with light southeasterly winds. The warm and calm weather will make it ideal conditions for boaters and beachgoers through the majority of the weekend.
Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, the weather will start to shift as a warm front approaches from the north. Sunday’s highs will soar into the 80s across much of our area, and some areas south of Orlando could even hit the upper 80s.

From late Sunday through Monday, a low-pressure system will move along the warm front, pushing a cold front down the state. This means that as the day progresses, you can expect an increase in shower and storm activity. The rain chances will rise from north to south, with the heaviest rain expected Sunday night into Monday morning. We’re forecasting a 40-60% chance of rain during this period.
As for storms, the chances for lightning are relatively low, as the atmosphere isn’t expected to be overly unstable. Sunday and Monday will also be breezy, with a strong south-to-west wind.
By Monday, high temperatures will cool back into the 70s once the cold front passes through, followed by a gradual warming trend into the middle part of next week.
After the cold front moves through, high pressure will take control once again, bringing quiet and warm conditions for the middle of the week. Expect another gradual warming trend as we head into Wednesday and Thursday.
So, whether you’re enjoying the warm weather this weekend or looking forward to a quiet and sunny mid-week, it looks like we’re in for some pretty nice springtime conditions — just keep an eye on Sunday night and Monday for possible rain and storms!
