Brutal May heat wave continues to blister Florida. Here’s what to expect this week

Heat index soars to 100-plus degrees in Orlando area

ORLANDO, Fla. – If you’ve spent any time outside over the weekend in Central Florida, you already know it’s hot -- and the heat is sticking around.

We’re looking at near-record temperatures in the Orlando area through midweek, with heat indices soaring to 100–105 degrees.

Record highs

Add in the limited rain, and drought conditions will continue to worsen.

We won’t reach criteria for Red Flag Warnings on Monday, but keep in mind that any brush fires that do start could spread quickly.

🔥 Monday–Wednesday: Summer sneak peek

High pressure remains in control, keeping things mostly dry and hot. Interior areas will hit the mid- to upper 90s, with coastal cities just a few degrees cooler thanks to the sea breeze.

A few inland areas could see isolated showers in the afternoons, but the chance is 20% or less. There’s no significant lightning threat for now.

💧 Thursday: Small shift

A weak front pushes through Thursday, bringing a 20–30% chance of scattered showers and maybe a few storms. We won’t see significant measurable rainfall, but we will pick up a few showers.

🌥 Memorial Day Weekend: Slightly cooler, slightly wetter

Moisture lingers behind the front heading into the long weekend.

We’ll hold onto a low (20%) chance of afternoon rain and a few lightning storms each day.

The bigger story? Temperatures come down just enough to feel the difference.

Expect mid- to upper 80s along the coast and upper 80s to low 90s inland.

Most of us will still remain warmer than normal, but it will not be as hot as we are seeing early this week.
