Rain chances ramp up in Central Florida through weekend with severe storms possible

Storms could bring lightning, small hail and heavy downpours

ORLANDO, Fla. – An active weather pattern is in place across Central and Eastern Florida for the next several days, bringing a mix of intense heat, humidity and daily rounds of potentially strong storms.

From outdoor plans to beach trips, here’s what you need to know.

Friday

Friday kicks off a stretch of hot, stormy days. Temperatures will rise into the low 90s, but feeling like 100 to 105 degrees.

By early afternoon, 60-70% chance of scattered storms will start developing inland and track to the east coast. Storm coverage will be widespread, and while not every storm will be severe, some could bring gusty winds up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, small hail, and heavy downpours. Localized flooding is possible, especially in areas that see slow-moving or repeated storms.

Storms may linger as late as 10 p.m. before tapering off overnight.

Weekend

Heading into the weekend, the heat stays locked in with daily highs in the low 90s and that same triple-digit “feels-like” heat sticking around.

The storm pattern continues both Saturday and Sunday. Expect showers and storms each afternoon and evening, especially across central and eastern parts of the state. Storms will again be capable of producing strong wind gusts, lightning, brief flooding and small hail. Under some of these slow-moving storms, totals could pile up quickly increasing the flooding risk.

Next Week

Looking ahead to next week and toward the Fourth of July holiday, this pattern doesn’t show signs of letting up.

Storm chances remain elevated with daily afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms likely (60–70%).
