ORLANDO, Fla. – A weather disturbance that brought us big rain on Wednesday will keep rain chances elevated for one more day as deep tropical moisture lingers.
Expect a good chance of showers and storms (50–70%) on Thursday afternoon.
The storms will generally move northwest at around 15 to 20 mph, but some could repeatedly pass over the same areas, leading to another day of localized flooding. Along with the heavy rain, some stronger storms may also produce gusty winds at times.
Temperatures will be hot, with highs near 90 along the coast and into the low to mid-90s inland. Heat index values will climb to around 105-110 on Thursday.
Weekend
Looking ahead to Friday through the middle of next week, a strong dome of high pressure will build over the area. This will lead to a significant drop in rain chances and a big uptick in the heat.
By the weekend, rain will be hard to come by, especially Saturday and Sunday, when chances could drop as low as 10–20%.
Temperatures will rise each day, with highs reaching the mid to upper 90s inland and even the mid-90s along the coast.
The humidity will make it feel even hotter, with heat indices between 108 and 110 all weekend long.
This upcoming heatwave is shaping up to be the most intense of the summer so far, with Major to Extreme Heat Risk expected across much of the area.
On the current forecast, heat advisories are likely Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This means afternoon errands or outdoor activities like lawn work or sports could quickly lead to heat exhaustion if proper precautions aren’t taken. Be sure to stay hydrated and take cooling breaks in the shade or A/C.
