ORLANDO, Fla. – A dangerous and potentially record-breaking heat wave is building across Florida this weekend.
A strong dome of high pressure is locking into place, cutting off rain chances and sending temperatures soaring.
Friday remains a bit of a transitional day, with highs in the mid-90s and a few lingering storms (30-40% chance) possible in the afternoon.
Weekend
By Saturday and Sunday, rain will be scarce (just a 10–20% chance) with little to no relief, even along the coast.
Temperatures will rise a little each day, with widespread mid- to upper 90s expected inland.
Coastal areas won’t be able to escape the heat either, climbing into the low 90s.
For perspective, the last time Orlando officially hit 100 degrees was August 12, 2023, and in Sanford it was more recent, on July 6, 2024.
The added danger comes from the humidity, which will push “feels like” temperatures up to 108 on Friday and possibly 110 Saturday and Sunday.
Monday still looks to be the hottest day yet, with even higher heat index values possible.
This heatwave could be the most intense of the summer so far, with Major to Extreme Heat Risk forecast across much of east-central Florida, including the I-4 corridor and metro Orlando.
Heat Advisories will likely be issued most of Central Florida this weekend and into early next week.
If you’ve got weekend plans, beach days, backyard BBQs or youth sports, make sure you’re taking proper precautions. Stay in the shade, drink plenty of water and limit strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.
This heat isn’t just uncomfortable, it’s dangerous.
