Central Florida to see tropical downpours through weekend. Here’s what to know

Flood watch issued for Volusia and Brevard counties

ORLANDO, Fla. – Wet, windy and dangerous beach conditions are expected through the weekend, especially along the east coast as flooding remains the biggest threat.

Friday

A strong high pressure system to the north is pulling in moisture and strong onshore winds from the Atlantic.

This setup is bringing periods of heavy rain, especially along the coast, with breezy to gusty conditions. Rainfall could be locally intense, with some spots possibly seeing 3–5 inches, especially where rain bands linger.

Saturday - Sunday

Conditions may worsen Saturday as deeper tropical moisture moves in from the Bahamas. During this time, a weak low could form near the NW Bahamas and track toward South Florida, increasing rainfall coverage and intensity.

As this area lingers nearby, the National Hurricane Center is highlighting it with a low chance (10%) for tropical development.

The winds will also stay gusty at times out of the east. A Wind Advisory may be needed Saturday for gusts near 35 mph.

Flooding Threat

Flooding is most likely in areas that have already seen heavy rain. A Flood Watch remains in effect for Volusia and Brevard counties until Sunday morning.

Flooding is also a concern along the St. Johns River, especially near Astor, Cocoa and Geneva, where water levels are already elevated.

Marine Hazards

Beach and marine conditions are dangerous: large waves (6–8 feet), high surf and powerful rip currents are expected to continue, along with minor to moderate beach erosion

Next Week

Rain chances remain high into early next week, with a brief break possible midweek before more showers return.
