ORLANDO, Fla – We’re keeping an eye on a broad area of low pressure in the Central tropical Atlantic, currently several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
While it’s still disorganized for now, conditions are becoming more favorable for development, and there’s a good chance this system could become a tropical depression by midweek.
If it gets a name, the next one on the list is Jerry.
It’s moving quickly west and could approach the Leeward Islands later this week.
As of Monday morning, the National Hurricane Center gives it a 70% chance of development over the next 48 hours, and an 80% chance over the next 7 days.
