ORLANDO, Fla. – Summerlike heat hits Central Florida this week, but a sharp blast of cold air arriving just days later will send the region into a dramatic temperature swing.
High pressure from the western Atlantic has settled south of Florida, keeping conditions quiet, dry and unusually warm.
Once Thursday morning’s fog clears, warm and dry weather takes over. Highs climb into the low to mid-80s, nearly 10 degrees above normal.
FRIDAY & SATURDAY
Friday and Saturday stay warm and dry with more early morning fog possible.
Through the day, afternoon highs will climb to near record highs in the mid- to upper 80s. Coastal areas should remain slightly cooler as a sea breeze pushes inland.
While the beaches may look inviting over the next few days, beachgoers should beware of a high risk of rip currents.
SUNDAY
Sunday brings a major change.
A strong cold front moves through with about a 40% chance of scattered showers.
Rainfall totals look light and will not ease drought conditions. A few thunderstorms are possible, however.
Winds increase from the west and northwest at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, creating more sensitive fire weather conditions.
NEXT WEEK
Cooler air follows quickly. Highs drop into the upper 50s and low 60s Monday and Tuesday.
Lows will dip into the 30s by Tuesday morning, with wind chills in the upper 20s to mid-30s.
