When does Central Florida typically see its first 90-degree day?

A look at last 4 decades in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – In Orlando, 90-degree heat is inevitable each year. The real question is when it arrives.

Looking at the last four decades, Orlando’s first 90-degree day typically occurs between late March and mid-April.

On average, the first 90-degree day of the year happens right around April 1.

EARLIEST AND LATEST DATES

The earliest first 90-degree day on record during this period occurred on March 3, which happened in both 2012 and 2023. Those years also stand out as unusually warm summers.

On the other extreme, there were a few years that did not reach 90 degrees until early May, showing just how much variability the spring season can bring in Florida.

First 90-degree day stats

90-DEGREE DAYS STARTING EARLIER

Since the 2000s, and especially in the 2010s and 2020s, 90-degree heat has shown up earlier more frequently, with several years recording their first 90-degree day in March.

While weather naturally varies from year to year, the overall trend suggests Orlando is reaching the 90-degree mark slightly earlier than it did a few decades ago.
