Weather Alert Day as strong cold front targets Central Florida

Threat of gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain in the afternoon

ORLANDO, Fla. – The News 6 Weather Team has designated Monday a Weather Alert Day.

Central Florida is under a Level 2 Slight Risk for severe weather from the Storm Prediction Center as a strong cold front moves south across the state.

Our rain chance on Monday is 80 percent as that front approaches. The biggest threats with storms will be wind gusts up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and hail. The tornado risk is low, but not zero.

The morning will start off quiet with some sunshine and quickly warming temperatures. It will also be windy ahead of the front. Winds will be out of the south southwest, gusting up to 25 mph at times.

Storms will begin moving into northern Marion County between about noon and 1 p.m. By around 2 to 3 p.m., heavier activity will move into areas like The Villages and southern Lake County.

Some of the most intense storms along the I-4 corridor look to occur between about 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Then, between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., the line of storms will move into northern Brevard County before pushing offshore and clearing our area.

Behind the front, winds shift to the northwest, bringing in much cooler air.

Highs today will reach the 80s across much of the area before the cooler air arrives tonight. By Tuesday morning, temperatures will feel much colder across parts of Central Florida.

Highs on Tuesday will only reach around 60 degrees before a gradual warming trend begins later in the week. By the weekend, temperatures climb back into the low 80s.
