ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in for another unsettled stretch of weather, with scattered to numerous afternoon storms expected through Tuesday.
While the forecast follows a familiar summertime pattern, another disturbance moving west across the Atlantic could bring even more moisture and rain chances heading into the weekend.
MONDAY & TUESDAY
Rain chances remain elevated at 50 to 70 percent both Monday and Tuesday as tropical moisture lingers across the state.
Storms will develop through the afternoon, with the coverage spreading toward the east coast by late day. A few stronger storms could produce wind gusts up to 50 mph, frequent lightning, and torrential downpours.
While widespread flooding is not expected, Central Florida remains under a ‘marginal risk’ (Level 1/5) for excessive flooding, with western Marion County under a ‘slight risk’ (Level 2/5).
High temperatures will climb into the lower 90s with heat index values between 100 and 106 degrees.
MIDWEEK
By Wednesday and Thursday, winds will turn onshore, allowing the Atlantic sea breeze to become more active. That means coastal communities could see a few showers earlier in the day before the highest storm coverage shifts inland during the afternoon and evening. Coverage sits between 30-40%.
Temperatures will remain seasonably hot, with highs in the lower 90s.
WEEKEND
Looking ahead to Friday and the weekend, forecast guidance continues to suggest another disturbance may move westward across the Atlantic toward Florida.
If it holds and reaches Florida, it would bring another surge of tropical moisture, increasing rain and storm coverage once again.
It’s too early to know exactly how organized the feature will become or precisely where it will track, but the current forecast calls for higher rain chances Friday into Saturday along with the potential for locally heavy rainfall. At this point, storm chances remain at 60-70% through the weekend.
The strengthening onshore flow could also create a higher risk of dangerous rip currents at Atlantic beaches beginning late this week.
