ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is in for a wet and stormy Friday as deep tropical moisture moves across the state.
Rain chances climb to around 70% through Saturday, with multiple rounds of showers and storms capable of producing heavy downpours, gusty winds, and localized flooding.
Showers and storms will begin moving onshore this morning before becoming more numerous through the late morning and afternoon. With plenty of tropical moisture in place, some areas could pick up 2 to 4 inches of rain in a short period, with isolated spots potentially seeing up to 5 inches.
Most impacts should be limited to nuisance flooding and standing water on roads, but isolated flash flooding is possible where the heaviest rain falls.
Cloud cover and widespread rain will keep temperatures a little lower on Friday, with highs in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. Despite the lower temperatures, humidity will remain high with heat indices reaching 100 to 105 degrees.
At the beaches, a High Risk of rip currents is in place through the weekend as increasing swell and onshore winds create dangerous swimming conditions.
SUNDAY
Rain chances ease somewhat Sunday to 30 to 50%, but scattered afternoon storms will remain possible.
NEXT WEEK
Next week brings a significant shift in the pattern.
Drier air and strengthening high pressure will lead to much lower rain chances, generally just 20 to 30% each afternoon.
With fewer storms and more sunshine, temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s, while heat index values could reach 108 to 110 degrees in some locations.
