College Signing Days celebrate academic achievements at Orange County schools

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Orange County Schools are celebrating students’ academic achievements with college signing days at high schools, according to the school district.

The rallies are a twist on the traditional celebration of student athletes signing on to become college athletes. The new events at Orange County Public Schools solely celebrate academics and students who have made plans for their post-secondary education.

College-bound students at Cypress Creek High School signed a Bear Nation Hall of Fame banner to be displayed as inspiration for rising students. The school also awarded scholarships and laptops to some students through a drawing.

Throughout the school year, specialists from college and career centers at the high school have been encouraging and coaching students on how to research post-secondary opportunities, including college or military service, and apply for financial aid.

Cypress Creek was recognized by Free Application for Federal Student Aid for its high completion rate.

Specialists from the College and Career Centers received professional development through the American School Counselor Association Conference last summer in preparation for the new push to get students more engaged in the planning process for their futures.

College Signing Day events will be happening over the next two weeks at OCPS high schools.
