OCPS teachers at 6 schools may get additional $20,000 in pay

Award expected by Oct. 1

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orange County Public Schools said it will provide a new salary incentive for teachers in selected schools if it is awarded School of Hope grants from the Florida Department of Education.

The district said it is submitting plans that would include teacher-supplement funds for six schools:

  • Catalina Elementary
  • Lake Weston Elementary
  • Lockhart Elementary
  • Memorial Middle
  • Rosemont Elementary
  • Tangelo Park Elementary

Each of the six schools received 'D' ratings in 2017.

The district said it worked closely with the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association to create the incentive, which will recruit and retain effective teachers in schools with the greatest needs.

The FDOE said it will be providing funding for 25 schools statewide, with the award expected by Oct. 1.

The district said if any of the six schools is awarded the grant, an annual supplement of $20,000 will be paid retroactively to the teacher's start date this school year.

The supplement is for the 2017-18 school year only.
