ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Leaders of Orlando’s Haitian-American community are applauding efforts local agencies have made in reaching their corners of the county, but say more steps are needed to make sure important information reaches them in a timely manner. Orange County Sheriff’s deputies made a concerted effort to push out such information in recent months, following a string of attacks on Haitian Creole-speaking women at bus stops. Deputies caught the suspect, Nelson Odige, Thursday, and said he asked the women which languages they spoke before he assaulted them. Representation and engagement are the main goals of the area’s Haitian-American community leaders, who say they’re often the last to know about information in Central Florida. She gave the example of organizations knowing to turn to church leaders when they needed a message shared, since religion continues to be a foundation of the community.

An inmate who organized a daring, elaborate Southern California jailbreak in 2016 was found guilty Thursday of the escape but acquitted of kidnapping a taxi driver while on the run, authorities said. ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Police reports and 911 calls released Wednesday further elaborate on the timeline of events that happened in Pine Hills after Keith Moses is accused of opening fire shooting five people, killing three of them. Channel 9 decided not to air the 911 calls, but instead describe what took place on Feb. 22 from those who witnessed it firsthand. Out of the seven 911 calls released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday, all paint of picture of shock, and horror by witnesses and from one of the victims. Several 911 calls came in from witnesses who described the shooting scene involving Lyons and Walden. As for moses he is still not listed as having an assigned cell in the Orange County Jail.
