APOPKA, Fla. – Central Florida will once again come together this weekend to honor the life and legacy of fallen Apopka firefighter Austin Duran during the annual 15 Days of Hope, a community initiative dedicated to remembering a hometown hero while supporting the mission of The 2650 Foundation.
Duran devoted his life to serving others. While his watch has ended early, his legacy continues to inspire first responders and residents throughout the region. The 2650 Foundation was established in his honor to support first responders, their families, and the community Austin loved.
The weekend begins Saturday at 7 a.m., with the Duran: 2650 Community Workout at 3710 Jason Dwelley Pkwy. in Apopka. The event brings participants together through fitness, teamwork and fellowship while celebrating Austin’s life and service. The workout will last 26 minutes and 50 seconds.
The observance continues Sunday with the first Run for Hope 5K, which begins at 6:45 a.m. Hundreds of runners, walkers and supporters are expected to participate in an event that honors Austin while raising awareness for the foundation that carries on his legacy and sends other firefighters to advanced training.
As part of this year’s coverage, I welcomed Michael Duran, Austin’s father, aboard Results-1 for an episode of Trooper Steve on Patrol.
During our conversation, Michael shares memories of Austin as a son, firefighter, and friend while reflecting on how unimaginable loss has grown into a mission centered on hope, service, and supporting others. We also discuss the work of The 2650 Foundation and the importance of this weekend’s events in ensuring Austin’s legacy continues to make a difference.
The conversation offers viewers an opportunity to hear directly from the Duran family about the impact Austin continues to have on the community and why these events remain so important years later.
Whether you’re participating in the community workout, running the 5K, volunteering or simply sharing Austin’s story, every act of support helps continue a mission rooted in service, sacrifice and community.
