Both kids taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in stable condition

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Two children were hurt Friday after an Orange County sheriff’s deputy accidentally fired his personal gun while cleaning it, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies responded to the scene around 12:55 p.m. When they arrived, they found two children with non-life-threatening injuries. One child had a gunshot wound; the other was hurt by shrapnel.

The children’s father, an off-duty Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy, was cleaning his personal firearm when it discharged a single round, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both children were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where they are listed in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office said no additional details are available at this time.
