ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – This month, Orange County Public Schools launched its first-ever “Summer Production Series,” with a performance set for this weekend.
In a release, school officials said that the inaugural performance is “In the Heights,” thanks to a grant received from The Phoenix Foundation of Central Florida through the Foundation for OCPS.

“More than 90 OCPS high school students from across the district are contributing to the cast, crew, and orchestra,” the release reads. “The production’s artistic team is led by multiple award-winning OCPS theatre educators, a distinction that reflects the district’s recognition last year as a Premiere Community for Theatre Education by the Educational Theatre Association.”
The musical itself was written by famed songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, and it tells the story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Back in 2008, the show won the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations.
Per the district, “In the Heights” will run from June 26 - 28 at Edgewater High School. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
