ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – New body-camera footage has been released after deputies fatally shot a knife-wielding woman last month, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting was reported back on June 3, when Sheriff John Mina said deputies received a call from the 8200 block of Tivoli Drive about a woman — later identified as Rosalia Hodges, 59 — screaming in the street.
Audio of the non-emergency call was later released by the OCSO, in which a neighbor claims that Hodges was “screaming at the top of her lungs” before going back inside and “banging on walls.”

Cell-phone footage of the incident also shows Hodges shouting in Spanish from her driveway.
“We’re worried for her husband’s health right now,” the caller can be heard saying.
When deputies arrived, the woman was in her house, prompting deputies to knock on her door, Mina added. However, he said that when she opened the door, she was holding a large knife.
“As our deputies retreated toward the street, they gave her several commands to drop the knife,” Mina explained. “The woman refused to drop the knife and shouted, ‘I’ll kill you.’”
The released footage shows Hodges coming out of the home with the knife raised above her head, repeatedly screaming at deputies to “Get out!”
As she advanced toward the deputies, three of them fired on the woman, striking her, the sheriff said. She was later taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Mina confirmed that his agency had not had prior encounters with the woman. That said, he revealed that she had been held under the Baker Act in other jurisdictions of the state.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the case, per standard policy. Afterward, the sheriff’s office will conduct its own internal investigation.
Meanwhile, Mina said that the three deputies involved are on temporary paid administrative leave as the review continues.
