Man dies despite life-saving efforts on the water, say Volusia Deputies

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Life-saving efforts ended in tragedy Sunday after a fisherman collapsed during a medical emergency while on Lake Woodruff.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office says they were called out to the Lake early after a frantic 911 call.

Deputies say Air One took off immediately to try to help, while a VSO dispatcher gave the caller CPR instructions.

Once Air One spotted the boat, deputies say Flight Paramedic Matt Brunelle jumped into the Lake to be first on scene.

Deputies say a good Samaritan then met other first responders on land and helped get them to the boat with the assistance of Air One.

Deputies say EMS took over life-saving measures until they got back to shore to travel to the hospital.

Despite extensive efforts, deputies say the 56-year-old was unable to recover.

The Sheriff’s Office says they send condolences to the man’s family, friends, and loved ones.
