Downtown Orlando shooting leaves woman injured after overnight fight, police say

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man was arrested days after an overnight fight in the city’s downtown district ended with an accidental gunshot that sent a woman to the hospital, police said.

On Wednesday, police announced they arrested Devan Cameron Upshaw in connection with the incident.

Police responded to Church Street and Orange Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday after reports of gunfire.

According to police, the fight had broken out between two groups, and during the altercation, a female was punched in the face. Her brother then used a gun to strike the person who hit her, and the weapon discharged accidentally — striking his sister in the foot.

The woman was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All individuals involved were detained and later released following the initial investigation.

Upshaw faces two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, one count of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and one count of Culpable Negligence.
