ORLANDO, Fla. – The chances are increasing for the Atlantic to get another named storm this week, with the next name on the list being Hanna.
The National Hurricane Center is now giving an area of low pressure in the central subtropical Atlantic a 70% chance of developing over the next 48 hours and an 80% chance through the next seven days.
The system, designated AL91, is located several hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda.
Thunderstorm activity is showing signs of becoming better organized as the system moves quickly east over the central subtropical Atlantic during the next couple of days.
If it becomes a tropical storm, Hanna would be the next name on the 2026 Atlantic list.
The environment is expected to become less favorable for development later this week, so the system has a relatively short window to strengthen.
There is no immediate threat to Florida.
