ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man was arrested after officers said he picked up an 8-year-old girl near a hotel pool and ran when her family confronted him.
According to the arrest affidavit, police responded to the Fairfield Inn at 3551 Millenia Blvd. on Friday night after receiving reports about the incident.
Upon arrival, they learned from witnesses that the man — identified as Rodney Bouie Jr., 32, who was not a guest at the hotel — had approached the gated pool area and picked up the girl, turning away from the pool while she was still in his arms, police explained.
“Bouie Jr. was confronted by several family members of the victim, resulting in him releasing the girl and fleeing on foot,” the affidavit reads.
But while Bouie fled, another man told him to stop running, and Bouie soon began doing push-ups in front of a nearby car wash, witnesses told officers.
“(The man) restrained Bouie Jr. until Orlando Police Officers arrived on the scene,” an officer wrote. “Upon my arrival, I immediately began assisting with the apprehension of Bouie Jr.”
Bouie was ultimately taken into custody and now faces charges of battery and false imprisonment of a child. He is held on bond of $3,500.
