ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Central Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after murdering and trying to rape his girlfriend’s 93-year-old mother, according to the State Attorney’s Office.
In a release on Tuesday, SAO officials said that the man — identified as Javier Rosado Martinez, 58 — committed the act back in 2022.
At the time, Orange County deputies said the woman was dropped off at her senior living facility after celebrating her 93rd birthday with family members. That’s when she received a phone call from Martinez, investigators noted.
The next day, she was found dead.
Investigators reported she was discovered naked, which was uncommon for her when she went to bed, with a blanket covering her torso and a pillow pressed against her face.
“The medical examiner said the cause of death was strangulation, blunt force trauma to her torso and her manner of death is homicide,” Sgt. Joe Covelli said.

Martinez — the boyfriend in an on-again, off-again relationship with one of the victim’s daughters — was eventually pinned as the suspect, described by deputies as “a manipulative, violent, abusive narcissist” who took advantage of his girlfriend due to a suspected drug and alcohol addiction.
According to a report, a piece of jewelry — a horn necklace — was found during the victim’s autopsy that the daughter confirmed belonged to Martinez.
While prosecutors pushed for the death penalty due to the “heinous nature” of the crime, the court instead sentenced Martinez to life in prison without the possibility of parole on the murder conviction, the release shows.
Meanwhile, Martinez also received five years for his attempted sexual battery conviction.
“(The victim) was a woman who opened her home to someone she trusted — and he repaid that trust with unspeakable violence," State Attorney Monique Worrell said. “This verdict is for her. It is for every family that has ever had to bury someone they loved because a predator hid behind a familiar face. This sentence ensures Javier Rosado Martinez will never again have the opportunity to harm another person.”
