'Fuller House's' Michael Campion talks to News 6 about season 2

Campion plays Jackson Fuller, DJ Tanner-Fuller's son

The Tanner-Fuller family is back on Netflix for season 2 of "Fuller House," which begins Friday.

We sat down with Michael Campion who plays Jackson Fuller on the series. Campion, who is from Orlando, shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.

What does that feel like, for the show to get picked up for a second season?

Campion: Honestly. I cannot even describe how awesome it was to get picked up for season 2. I thought we would get picked up for season 2 because season 1 was such a success. It is so awesome to know that all of these fans are into these characters, especially older ones like from the '90s. This is a '90s show we are talking about here. Now all of these adults are watching "Fuller House." It's really nice to see that these fans have come back to watch another season.

How did you decide to audition for Jackson Fuller?
Campion: I do a lot of video auditions (in Orlando) because I can't go to California all the time. For the first few auditions, I didn't know it was the "Full House" reboot. I didn't even know what it was. It didn't say anything about DJ or anything like that. So when I did finally find out. I was like, "Oh, my gosh!" I love "Full House." I have seen all of the reruns on Nick at Nite, so I am a big fan for sure. So, I was freaking out when I got the callback.

What is it like to play DJ Tanner-Fuller's (Candace Cameron-Bure's) son on "Fuller House?"
Campion: DJ, she is the typical mother and she is like that on and off set for sure. So the chemistry there is real. I'd say if she was my mom in real life I would act like that too. We definitely have a personal connection on account that she is a Christian as well as I am. We share that, which is really cool.

What does it feel like to have a close bond with your cast mates from "Fuller House?"

Campion: It is honestly unexplainable. It is really and truly... we are like a family now. Bob Saget is definitely like my grandpa and he treats me like a grandson. For sure Candace is like my mom. It is crazy how like we seem like a family. We do a lot of things together. It's so unexplainable how magic and truly awesome it is.

Tell me a little about your relationship with your television brother Elias Harger, who plays Max Fuller on the show.

Campion: Elias is definitely full of energy and I am pretty laid back. It's kind of a yin and yang there. He is definitely the little brother. He is the stereotypical little brother to me. Since I don't have a little brother, I definitely imagine that is what it feels like.

What was your favorite season 1 "Fuller House" episode?

Campion: There are so many good ones. My favorite episode to shoot was the third episode to shoot with Joey (Dave Coulier). We actually got to shoot each other with Nerf guns, slime and Silly String. We had so much fun with that. I think that was my favorite episode to shoot.

Do you have a favorite "Full House" character? What is it like to work with that person?
Campion: It's like a tie between Jesse (John Stamos) and Joey (Dave Coulier). It's so close, it'slike they are right next to each other. I can relate to Joey a lot but I love Jesse's character so much. For John, he is definitely like my grandpa. He treats me like I am his grandson. We do stuff together on and off set; we have jokes that we crack. Dave -- let me tell you about Dave. He is so funny, so funny.

You work with a group of really funny people. Is it hard to keep a straight face sometimes?
Campion: I have a lot of bloopers where I am looking at the camera and I start laughing. I can't tell you how many times that I have done that at least four or five within season 1. It is so hard to keep a straight face even off set too. Not even when the cameras are rolling.

Do you have an cast rituals before you start taping?
Campion: Right before the live audience, we all huddle up in a circle. I think this is a tradition that they carried over from "Full House," but we all hold hands and babble stuff and it gets progressively louder and it ends with a "Hey." We all drop hands and it ends with a high five and stuff and we get ready to do intros. Then we all go out one by one and then the show starts.

What are you most excited about for people to see during season 2 of "Fuller House?"
Campion: I guess the main thing is the holiday episodes. That would be number one. For me, I have a deeper connection with Ramona (Soni Bringas). Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) gets a love interest. Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) has a brother on the show. Juan Pablo Di Pace (who) plays Fernando is now a regular and he has a lot of funny bits with Andrea.
